Amaru Surf

Terms of Service

For the game Amaru Surf on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Android.
Effective 30 September 2026. This is the current version.

You pay once and you play. That is the whole deal.

These terms are between you and Ignacio Moreno, the individual developer who makes and publishes Amaru Surf. They are short because there is not much to agree to: no account, no subscription, no ads, and nothing to buy inside the game. By installing or playing the game, you agree to them.

Your copy of the game

Buying Amaru Surf gives you a personal, non-commercial licence to play it on the devices your store lets you install it on. The game itself — its code, its art, its music, and Amaru — remains mine. What you buy is the right to play it.

The licence covers:

  • Playing it as much as you like, for as long as you have it
  • Playing it with friends: two on one screen, or a room of up to six on your WiFi
  • Installing it on your other devices, as far as your store allows
  • Streaming it, and posting videos and screenshots of it, monetised or not

It does not cover:

  • Copying the game to give away or sell
  • Reselling or renting out your copy
  • Taking the game apart to reuse its code, art or music, except where the law gives you that right anyway

Buying, refunds and family sharing

You buy Amaru Surf from the App Store or Google Play, and the store handles everything about the purchase: the payment, the receipt, refunds, and whether you can share the game with your family. All of that is governed by the store's own terms — Apple's Media Services Terms or the Google Play Terms of Service — not by these. To ask for a refund, go to the store you bought the game from.

On iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the game. These terms sit alongside it; they do not replace it.

No account, no online service

Amaru Surf has no account or sign-in of its own, and no server. It runs on your device and plays offline. There is no online service for these terms to govern, and no server behind the game for me to switch off.

What the game does and does not do with your data is in the Privacy Policy. The short version: I collect nothing about you. The exception is on Android, where Google's Play Games library for the leaderboard collects data for Google, as the policy explains.

Playing with others on your WiFi

Apart from the leaderboard, the game's one network feature is local multiplayer, across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Android: up to six players in a room on the same WiFi, two riding at a time. The devices talk to each other directly, with no server and no internet connection in between.

While a room is open, other players on that network can see its name, which is the host's nickname, and everyone in the room sees each other's nicknames. The host decides who gets in. So be decent: pick a nickname you would be happy for a stranger on the same coffee-shop WiFi to read, and do not use the game to harass anyone. Chat is eight fixed phrases from a menu, which leaves little room to be rude.

The leaderboard

The leaderboard is not mine. On iPhone, iPad and Apple TV it is Apple's Game Center; on Android it is Google Play Games Services. Your score goes to Apple or Google, and they run the board and your player profile under their own terms: Apple's Media Services Terms or the Google Play Terms of Service.

I do not run a scoreboard of my own. Questions about your Game Center or Play Games account go to Apple or Google.

The game as it is

I make Amaru Surf with care, and I want to hear about anything that is broken. But to the extent the law allows, the game is provided "as is", without warranties: I do not promise that it is free of bugs, that it will run on every device or on every future version of iOS, tvOS and Android, or that local multiplayer will work on every network.

To the extent the law allows, I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses that come from using the game, and my total liability to you for anything to do with it is limited to what you paid for it.

None of this takes away your rights as a consumer that the law does not let anyone waive. If the law where you live protects you more than these terms do, that protection stands.

Changes to these terms

If these terms ever change, I will update this page and the effective date at the top. A change applies from its effective date onward, never backward, and if you keep playing after that date, the new version applies.

This page lives at https://amaru.surf/terms and will stay there.
